Yul Brynner

Yul Brynner (1920–1985) was a Russian-born American actor best known for playing the King of Siam in stage and film versions of The King and I.

The King and I: A Rodgers and Hammerstein musical about the relationship between the King of Siam and an English governess. Brynner originated the King on Broadway and returned to the role in the film.
Rodgers and Hammerstein: The American songwriting partnership of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, creators of major Broadway musicals. Their musical gave Brynner the role that defined his stage career.
Vladivostok: A port city in Russia’s Far East, near the borders with China and North Korea. Brynner was born in Vladivostok in 1920.
Tony Award: An annual American award recognizing achievement in live Broadway theater. Brynner won a Tony Award for originating the King in The King and I.
