Yuri Nikulin

Yuri Nikulin (1921–1997) was a Soviet and Russian actor and circus clown, celebrated for comic film roles and decades of performances with the Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard.

The Dog Barbos and the Unusual Cross: A 1961 Soviet comedy short by Leonid Gaidai, featuring Nikulin as the hapless rogue Balbes. Balbes established Nikulin’s screen partnership with Georgy Vitsin and Yevgeny Morgunov.
Leonid Gaidai: A Soviet film director known for popular comedies including Operation Y and The Diamond Arm. Gaidai directed several films that made Nikulin a household comic performer.
Great Patriotic War: The Eastern Front of World War II, fought between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union from 1941 to 1945. Nikulin served in the Red Army during the war before entering entertainment.
