Zeng Guofan

Zeng Guofan (1811–1872) was a Qing dynasty statesman and military leader who organized the Xiang Army and helped suppress the Taiping Rebellion.

Li Hongzhang: A Qing statesman and military leader who founded the Huai Army and pursued selective modernization. Zeng mentored Li, who built a separate provincial army and later became a leading Qing official.
Xiang Army: A regional force raised in Hunan by Zeng Guofan to fight the Taiping Rebellion. It was Zeng's principal instrument for rebuilding Qing military power.

Jinggang Campaign: A military campaign in the Taiping Rebellion in which Qing forces under Zeng Guofan fought to secure the Yangtze region. It illustrates the river-based campaigns through which Zeng's forces advanced against the Taiping.
