Zhenbao Island

Zhenbao Island is a small island in the Ussuri River, known in Russian as Damansky Island. China and the Soviet Union disputed its ownership, and Chinese and Soviet forces fought there in 1969.

Treaty of Nerchinsk: A 1689 treaty that established part of the boundary between Qing China and the Russian Empire. It began the treaty history later invoked in disputes over the Ussuri frontier.
Sino-Soviet border conflict: A series of armed confrontations between China and the Soviet Union along their shared border, especially in 1969. The island became the conflict’s most prominent battlefield.
