Zhou Youguang

Zhou Youguang (1906–2017) was a Chinese linguist and economist who led the committee that developed Hanyu Pinyin, adopted officially by China in 1958.

Mao Zedong: Mao Zedong led the Chinese Communist Party and the People's Republic of China from its founding in 1949 until 1976. His government authorized the language-reform program that commissioned Pinyin.
