Zhuge Liang

Zhuge Liang (181–234) was a Chinese strategist and statesman who served Liu Bei and became chancellor of Shu Han, governing the state after Liu Bei’s death.

Liu Bei: A warlord who founded Shu Han and became its first emperor. Zhuge Liang joined Liu Bei’s cause and served as his chief adviser.
Northern Expeditions: A series of Shu Han campaigns against the rival state of Wei from 228 to 234. Zhuge Liang personally led these attempts to advance into Wei-held territory.
Longzhong Plan: Zhuge Liang’s strategic proposal for Liu Bei to build a base in Jing and Yi provinces and contest the empire. It set out the political and military vision that guided Liu Bei’s expansion.
Records of the Three Kingdoms: A third-century Chinese historical work by Chen Shou documenting the Three Kingdoms period. It is the principal early historical account of Zhuge Liang’s life and service.
Liu Shan: The second and last emperor of Shu Han, succeeding his father Liu Bei. Zhuge Liang governed as regent during Liu Shan’s early reign.
Battle of Jieting: A 228 battle in which Wei forces defeated a Shu Han army at Jieting. The defeat disrupted Zhuge Liang’s first northern campaign and forced a retreat.
Battle of Red Cliffs: A 208 naval battle in which allied forces of Liu Bei and Sun Quan defeated Cao Cao’s army. Zhuge Liang helped secure the alliance that made this decisive victory possible.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms: A historical novel traditionally attributed to Luo Guanzhong, dramatizing the Three Kingdoms era. Its fictionalized Zhuge Liang is more legendary and often more prescient than historical accounts support.
Sima Yi: A Wei general and statesman who became the founding emperor of the Jin dynasty. His campaigns repeatedly opposed Zhuge Liang’s northern expeditions.
Battle of Wuzhang Plains: The 234 standoff between Shu Han and Wei armies during Zhuge Liang’s final campaign. Zhuge Liang died during this confrontation, ending his last expedition.
