Zoology

Zoology is the branch of biology devoted to animals, including their structure, physiology, behavior, evolution, classification, and distribution.

Animal: An animal is a multicellular organism that obtains energy by consuming organic matter and typically can move during part of its life. Animals are the organisms zoology studies, distinguished from plants, fungi, and other life.
Entomology: Entomology is the scientific study of insects. Insects are zoology’s most species-rich animal group and have dedicated methods and classifications.
Aristotle: Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher whose writings include systematic observations and classifications of animals. His animal studies are among the earliest extensive works in zoological history.
Botany: Botany is the branch of biology that studies plants. Botany centers on plants, whereas zoology centers on animals.

Marine biology: Marine biology studies organisms and ecological processes in marine environments. Marine zoologists investigate animal life across oceans, reefs, and coastal habitats.
Carl Linnaeus: Carl Linnaeus was a Swedish naturalist who established a widely adopted system of biological naming and classification. His binomial nomenclature standardized the naming of animal species.
Mycology: Mycology is the branch of biology concerned with fungi. Fungi are studied separately from animals despite some biological similarities.
Animal physiology: Animal physiology studies how animals’ bodies and organ systems function. Physiology explains how animal structures sustain life and respond to their environments.
Wildlife biology: Wildlife biology studies wild animals and their populations, habitats, and management. It applies zoological knowledge to monitoring and conserving animal populations.
