Zviad Gamsakhurdia

Zviad Gamsakhurdia was a Georgian dissident, writer, and politician who became Georgia’s first post-Soviet president, serving from 1991 until his overthrow in 1992.

Georgian dissident movement: A movement of Georgian activists who challenged Soviet rule and promoted national rights and independence. Gamsakhurdia became one of its most visible leaders through protests and underground publishing.
