Abdus Salam

Abdus Salam (1926–1996) was a Pakistani theoretical physicist who shared the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physics for unifying electromagnetism and the weak interaction.

Electroweak interaction: The unified description of electromagnetism and the weak interaction at high energies. Salam independently developed this unification, sharing the 1979 Nobel Prize for it.
Gauge theory: A framework in which interactions arise from symmetries expressed through fields. Electroweak unification applies gauge symmetry to electromagnetic and weak interactions.
