Æthelstan

Æthelstan was king of the Anglo-Saxons from 924 until 939. He conquered York and established authority over most of what is now England, making him its first king to rule a unified realm.

Battle of Brunanburh: A major 937 battle in which Æthelstan and his brother Edmund defeated a coalition led by Constantine II of Scotland and Olaf Guthfrithson. The victory helped secure the unity Æthelstan had built against a powerful northern coalition.
Edward the Elder: King of the Anglo-Saxons from 899 to 924 and son of Alfred the Great. Æthelstan inherited a growing West Saxon realm built through his father's campaigns.
Edmund I: King of the Anglo-Saxons from 939 to 946 and a younger half-brother of Æthelstan. Edmund fought beside Æthelstan at Brunanburh and succeeded him as king.
