Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf

Al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf was an Umayyad governor and military commander who governed Iraq from 694 to 714. He strengthened Umayyad authority through military campaigns, administrative reforms, and severe repression of opposition.

Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan: The Umayyad caliph who ruled from 685 to 705 and restored centralized authority after civil war. He appointed Al-Hajjaj to govern Iraq and relied on him to suppress rebellion.
Basra: A garrison city founded in southern Iraq during the early Muslim conquests. It became one of the principal centers from which Al-Hajjaj governed Iraq.
