Alfred Thayer Mahan

Alfred Thayer Mahan was a United States Navy officer and historian whose writings argued that command of the sea shapes national power, commerce, and world history.

Sea power: A state’s ability to use and control the sea for military, economic, and political advantage. Mahan made this broad idea the central measure of national influence.
