Ali Abdullah Saleh

Ali Abdullah Saleh was a Yemeni military officer and politician who ruled North Yemen from 1978 and unified Yemen from 1990 until his removal in 2012.

North Yemen: The Yemen Arab Republic, which existed in northern Yemen from 1962 until unification in 1990. Saleh became its president after a succession of leaders were killed or forced out.
