Anastasius I Dicorus

Anastasius I Dicorus was Byzantine emperor from 491 to 518. He reformed imperial finances, strengthened the eastern frontier, and left the treasury with a large surplus.

Byzantine solidus: The gold coin introduced by Constantine I that became a standard currency of the Byzantine Empire. Anastasius improved imperial finances partly by reforming the empire’s coinage.
Chrysargyron: A late Roman tax on trades and professions, collected in gold and silver. Anastasius abolished this unpopular tax in 498, easing burdens on urban workers and merchants.
Zeno: Byzantine emperor from 474 to 491 whose reign included the fall of the Western Roman Empire. Anastasius succeeded Zeno after his death in 491.

Henotikon: An edict issued by Emperor Zeno in 482 seeking compromise between Chalcedonian and non-Chalcedonian Christians. Anastasius maintained this contested settlement amid continuing church divisions.
Justinian I: Byzantine emperor from 527 to 565, known for legal codification, military campaigns, and monumental building. Justinian inherited the substantial treasury accumulated during Anastasius’s reign.
Byzantine coinage: The monetary system of the Byzantine Empire, including gold, silver, and bronze coins. His reforms reorganized bronze denominations within this wider monetary system.
