Arab League

The Arab League is a regional organization founded in 1945 to coordinate political, economic, cultural, and social cooperation among Arab states. Its members retain sovereignty, and its decisions generally depend on agreement among them.

Charter of the Arab League: The 1945 founding treaty that sets out the Arab League’s aims, institutions, and rules for cooperation. It defines the League’s authority and the limits of its collective decisions.
Alexandria Protocol: A 1944 agreement among Arab governments that proposed a regional organization and outlined its basic principles. It was the immediate diplomatic blueprint for the League’s founding charter.

Pact of the League of Arab States: The agreement signed in Cairo on 22 March 1945 that formally established the Arab League. Its signing marks the League’s creation as an intergovernmental organization.
Arab League boycott of Israel: A coordinated campaign by Arab states to restrict economic and commercial relations with Israel. The boycott illustrates a prominent attempt to turn shared political opposition into collective economic pressure.
Gulf Cooperation Council: A regional organization founded in 1981 by six Arab monarchies bordering the Persian Gulf. The GCC is narrower in membership and has pursued deeper coordination among a subset of Arab states.
Arab League–United Nations relations: The institutional and diplomatic relationship between the Arab League and the United Nations. The League uses its standing in international diplomacy to advance regional positions at the UN.
