Being-toward-death : An awareness of one's own death as an unavoidable, personal possibility. For Heidegger, facing mortality can disclose the urgency of choosing one's own possibilities.

Facticity : The given features of a person's situation, such as their past, body, and social setting. Authenticity must acknowledge circumstances that freedom cannot simply erase.
The They : Heidegger's term for anonymous social norms that shape ordinary expectations and opinions. Conformity to the They can obscure which possibilities a person has made their own.
Martin Heidegger : A German philosopher whose work analyzes being, everyday existence, and human finitude. Being and Time develops authenticity through the contrast between owned and anonymous existence.
Individualism : A family of views that gives priority to the individual over collective claims or identities. Authenticity can involve social obligations, so it is not simply independence from others.
Authenticity in tourism : The question of whether tourist experiences present genuine local life or staged representations. Tourism debates expose how authenticity can become a commodity and a judgment of social roles.
