Ballpoint pen

A writing instrument that deposits quick-drying ink as a small metal ball rolls across a surface. The ball both meters ink flow and keeps the reservoir from leaking.

Ballpoint pen tip: The socketed metal ball and housing at a ballpoint pen’s writing end, which regulate ink transfer to the surface. Its ball rolls against the paper while the socket meters ink from the reservoir.
