Battle of Leyte

A campaign in the Philippines from October to December 1944 in which Allied forces captured Leyte from Japanese forces, opening the liberation of the archipelago.

Battle of Leyte Gulf: A series of naval engagements fought near the Philippines in October 1944, commonly treated as the largest naval battle of World War II. Its naval engagements protected the Leyte landings from Japanese fleet attacks.
