Battle of the Boyne

The Battle of the Boyne was a 1690 battle in Ireland in which William III’s forces defeated James II during the Williamite War. The victory helped secure William’s rule in Britain and Ireland.

River Boyne: A river in eastern Ireland that flows through Drogheda into the Irish Sea. Its steep banks and crossings shaped the armies’ positions and William’s advance.
Glorious Revolution: The 1688–1689 overthrow of James II and establishment of William III and Mary II as monarchs of England. It displaced James and set the dynastic conflict behind the Irish campaign.
