Belostomatidae

Belostomatidae is a family of aquatic true bugs, commonly called giant water bugs. Its members ambush prey in freshwater and can deliver painful bites.

Raptorial foreleg: A prey-grasping foreleg modified with strong, spined segments. Giant water bugs seize prey with forelegs adapted for grasping and holding.
Insect: An arthropod with a three-part body, six legs, and usually one or two pairs of wings. Giant water bugs share the defining body plan of insects.
