Cao Pi

Cao Pi was the first emperor of Cao Wei, ruling from 220 to 226 after ending the Eastern Han dynasty. He was also a poet and literary critic whose writings shaped early medieval Chinese literature.

Cao Cao: A Han warlord and statesman who built the power base inherited by his son Cao Pi. Cao Pi succeeded his father as ruler of Wei’s territories and political network.
Wei–Shu–Wu: The three rival states that competed for control of China during the Three Kingdoms period. Cao Pi’s court claimed supremacy amid these competing regimes.

Seven Scholars of Jian'an: A group of late Han writers associated with Cao Cao’s court and the Jian'an literary style. Cao Pi’s literary criticism assessed the talents of writers in this courtly circle.
Eastern Wu: A state ruled by the Sun family in southeastern China during the Three Kingdoms period. Its independent rule limited Cao Pi’s control despite Wei’s imperial title.
