Catherine Cookson

Catherine Cookson (1906–1998) was an English novelist whose stories often depict working-class life in northeast England. Her books became among the best-selling works of the twentieth century.

The Fifteen Streets: Catherine Cookson’s 1952 novel follows a working-class family in a poor district of Newcastle upon Tyne. Its Newcastle setting established the urban world that recurs across Cookson’s novels.
