Celestial spheres

Celestial spheres were nested, rotating shells in ancient and medieval cosmology, carrying the Moon, Sun, planets, and stars around a stationary Earth.

Geocentric model: A cosmological model that places Earth at the center of the universe. The spheres provided a physical framework for this Earth-centered account of the heavens.
Eudoxus of Cnidus: A fourth-century BCE Greek mathematician and astronomer who modeled celestial motions with concentric spheres. His homocentric sphere model is an early systematic account of nested celestial rotations.
