CERN

CERN is an international particle-physics research organization near Geneva that operates the Large Hadron Collider and other scientific facilities.

Large Hadron Collider: The world’s largest and highest-energy particle collider, located at CERN near Geneva. CERN’s flagship accelerator collides protons and heavy ions for experiments such as ATLAS and CMS.
Particle accelerator: A machine that uses electromagnetic fields to speed up charged particles. CERN’s accelerator complex uses multiple machines to prepare beams for experiments.
European Organization for Nuclear Research Convention: The 1953 treaty that established the European Organization for Nuclear Research as an international organization. It gave CERN its legal foundation and defined cooperation among its member states.
