Claudius

Claudius was Roman emperor from 41 to 54 CE. His reign expanded Roman rule into Britain and strengthened imperial administration.

Roman conquest of Britain: Rome’s military campaigns that established provincial rule over parts of Britain beginning in 43 CE. Claudius authorized the invasion and visited Britain during its early campaigns.
Julio-Claudian dynasty: The first Roman imperial dynasty, spanning Augustus through Nero. Claudius inherited the family’s imperial position after the assassination of Caligula.

Tacitus: A Roman historian whose works include the Annals, a narrative of imperial rule through Nero. Tacitus depicts Claudius’s court as dominated by wives and freedmen.
