Digital video

Digital video is moving-image content represented and processed as digital data, usually as a sequence of frames with synchronized audio.

Image sensor: An electronic device that converts incoming light into electrical signals. It turns the scene’s light into pixel data that can become video frames.
Digital image: A visual representation stored as discrete numerical samples, commonly arranged in a pixel grid. Each video frame is a digital image sampled at a particular moment.
Video editing: The process of selecting, arranging, and modifying moving-image and sound material. Editing assembles digital footage into a timed sequence and shapes its presentation.
Analog video: Moving-image information represented by continuously varying electrical signals rather than discrete digital values. It represents image signals continuously, unlike digital video’s sampled data.
YouTube: An online video-sharing platform launched in 2005. Its user-upload model made publishing and viewing digital video widely accessible.
Frame rate: The number of images displayed or captured per unit of time, usually measured in frames per second. It determines how densely successive video frames sample motion.
Pixel: A discrete picture element that stores a sample of image color or brightness. Video frames are built from pixels arranged in a grid.
Video streaming: The delivery of video over a network for playback as data arrives. Streaming lets encoded video play without first downloading the entire file.
Film stock: Light-sensitive photographic material used to record moving images as chemical changes. Photochemical film records motion without encoding frames as digital data.
Video-on-demand: A system that lets viewers select and play video content when they choose. Digital files and network delivery enabled viewing outside fixed broadcast schedules.
