Dinocephalia

Dinocephalia is an extinct group of early therapsids that flourished during the Permian. It included large herbivores and carnivores and disappeared before gorgonopsians and dicynodonts became dominant.

Therapsida: A major group of synapsids that includes mammals and their extinct relatives. Dinocephalia is one of the earliest major branches within this group.
Pachyostosis: The abnormal thickening and increased density of bone, often associated with aquatic or amphibious animals. Heavy skull bones in some dinocephalians have been discussed in relation to this condition.
