Dmitry Donskoy

Dmitry Donskoy was grand prince of Moscow from 1359 to 1389. His rule strengthened Moscow and is especially associated with the Russian victory over Mamai’s forces at the Battle of Kulikovo in 1380.

Battle of Kulikovo: A 1380 battle in which forces led by Dmitry of Moscow defeated an army commanded by Mamai. The victory that made Dmitry’s name enduring and strengthened Moscow’s standing among Russian principalities.
