Edwin Chadwick

Edwin Chadwick (1800–1890) was an English social reformer whose reports on poverty, disease, and sanitation helped shape nineteenth-century British Poor Law and public health policy.

Public Health Act 1848: A British statute that established a central General Board of Health and enabled local sanitary authorities. Chadwick’s campaign helped secure the act, and he served on its General Board of Health.
