Eleftherios Venizelos

Eleftherios Venizelos (1864–1936) was a Greek statesman who served repeatedly as prime minister and led major political, military, and territorial changes in Greece.

Balkan Wars: Two wars fought in southeastern Europe in 1912–1913 that ended Ottoman rule over most of the region. Venizelos’s government brought Greece into the first war and expanded its territory through both.
Crete: The largest Greek island, located in the eastern Mediterranean south of the Aegean Sea. Venizelos’s political career began in Crete before it joined the Greek state.
