Elizabeth Gaskell

Elizabeth Gaskell (1810–1865) was an English novelist and short-story writer whose fiction examined industrial society, social class, and women’s lives. Her works include North and South, Cranford, and The Life of Charlotte Brontë.

Victorian literature: Literature produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, from 1837 to 1901. Gaskell’s career and fiction belong to this literary period.
