Ensemble Cast

An ensemble cast is a group of characters whose relationships and interactions collectively drive a dramatic work, rather than one character carrying the story alone.

Narrative Structure: The arrangement of events and elements that shapes how a story unfolds. Ensemble casts distribute narrative attention across several character arcs.
The Canterbury Tales: A collection of stories told by pilgrims traveling to Canterbury in Geoffrey Chaucer’s unfinished work. Its frame makes a company of travelers, not one protagonist, the organizing center.
Protagonist: The central character whose goals and actions organize a story’s main conflict. An ensemble distributes centrality that a protagonist-led story concentrates in one character.
