Equal-field system

The equal-field system was a land-allocation policy that assigned agricultural plots to households under state rules, especially in medieval China and Japan.

均田制: The Chinese equal-field system, used chiefly under the Northern Wei and Tang dynasties. This Chinese implementation assigned land by household status and helped organize state taxes.
Northern Wei dynasty: A dynasty ruling northern China from 386 to 534, founded by the Xianbei Tuoba clan. Northern Wei rulers introduced the Chinese equal-field system in the late fifth century.
