Erich Ludendorff

Erich Ludendorff (1865–1937) was a German general who helped direct Germany’s military effort in World War I and later became a nationalist politician.

Battle of Tannenberg: An August 1914 German victory over Russian forces in East Prussia, planned chiefly by Paul von Hindenburg and Erich Ludendorff. The victory made Ludendorff a nationally celebrated commander early in the war.
Third Supreme Command: Germany’s wartime military leadership under Paul von Hindenburg and Erich Ludendorff from 1916 to 1918. Ludendorff exercised extensive influence through this command alongside Hindenburg.
Paul von Hindenburg: A German field marshal and politician who led armies in World War I and later served as president of Germany. Hindenburg was Ludendorff’s senior partner in the Third Supreme Command.

Auxiliary Service Law: A 1916 German law requiring many men outside the armed forces to perform essential war work. The law implemented part of the labor mobilization Ludendorff sought.
