Ernst Mayr

Ernst Mayr (1904–2005) was a German-American evolutionary biologist and historian of science. He helped unite genetics with evolutionary theory and developed influential accounts of species and speciation.

Theodosius Dobzhansky: A geneticist and evolutionary biologist whose work helped establish the modern synthesis. His population genetics linked genetic variation to the evolutionary changes Mayr studied in species.
Biological species concept: A species concept defining species as groups of naturally interbreeding populations reproductively isolated from other such groups. Mayr made reproductive isolation central to his influential definition of species.
