Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling was a German idealist philosopher whose work linked nature, freedom, art, mythology, and the absolute. His thought developed from a philosophy of nature toward a late philosophy of revelation and historical existence.

German idealism: A philosophical movement that developed in Germany after Immanuel Kant, emphasizing the activity of reason and the unity of thought and reality. Schelling helped shape this movement alongside Fichte and Hegel.
