Gemini Observatory

Gemini Observatory operates two 8.1-meter optical and infrared telescopes: Gemini North on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, and Gemini South on Cerro Pachón, Chile. Together, they provide access to nearly the entire night sky.

Gemini North: The 8.1-meter optical and infrared telescope operated by Gemini Observatory on Mauna Kea, Hawaii. It is the northern half of the observatory’s twin-telescope system.
Gemini Planet Imager: An instrument on Gemini South designed to directly image young, Jupiter-like exoplanets and study circumstellar disks. It uses Gemini South’s adaptive optics to separate faint planets from their stars.
Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy: A consortium of universities and institutions that operates astronomical observatories and manages research facilities. AURA manages Gemini Observatory on behalf of its international partners.
