German rearmament

German rearmament was West Germany’s creation of new armed forces and entry into NATO in 1955, ending its postwar military disarmament.

Cold War: A geopolitical rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies after World War II. The Soviet threat led Western governments to seek West German forces for European defense.
Bundeswehr: The unified armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany, established in 1955. It was the institution created through West German rearmament.
