German Revolution of 1918–1919

A political revolution that ended the German Empire and established the Weimar Republic amid uprisings and armed conflict from 1918 to 1919.

Kiel Mutiny: A sailors’ revolt in late October 1918 that helped trigger revolutionary unrest across Germany. The naval revolt spread from Kiel and accelerated the collapse of imperial authority.
Friedrich Ebert: A Social Democratic politician who led Germany’s provisional government after the emperor’s abdication. Ebert pursued a parliamentary republic and negotiated with military leaders to preserve state authority.
