Gleichschaltung

Gleichschaltung was the Nazi regime’s policy of subordinating German institutions, organizations, and public life to party control, especially after 1933.

Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service: A 1933 Nazi law that enabled the dismissal of civil servants deemed politically unreliable or racially undesirable. It purged public administration and helped bring the state bureaucracy under Nazi control.
Coordination of the Länder: The subordination of Germany’s constituent states to central Nazi authority in 1933. It shows Gleichschaltung operating through the federal structure of government.
Reichstag Fire Decree: A 1933 emergency decree that suspended civil liberties after the Reichstag fire. It enabled repression that weakened opponents while the regime coordinated public institutions.
