Golden Age of Mexican cinema

A period of major industrial and artistic growth in Mexican filmmaking, generally spanning the 1930s through the 1950s. It established a distinctive national film industry with broad audiences across Latin America.

Allá en el Rancho Grande: A 1936 Mexican musical comedy set on a hacienda, directed by Fernando de Fuentes. Its success helped establish the ranchera film as a commercially powerful national genre.
Emilio Fernández: A Mexican film director and actor known for visually forceful dramas of rural life and national identity. His films helped define the period’s internationally recognized visual style.
