Golden Legend

The Golden Legend is a 13th-century collection of saints’ lives and religious narratives compiled by Jacobus de Voragine. Its accounts shaped medieval devotion and later artistic depictions of saints.

Jacobus de Voragine: A Dominican friar and archbishop of Genoa who compiled the Golden Legend in the 13th century. He selected and arranged the collection’s narratives for the liturgical year.
