Gondarine period

The Gondarine period was an era of Ethiopian imperial rule centered on Gondar, beginning in the seventeenth century. It is associated with a more settled royal court and distinctive architecture.

Fasilides: Fasilides was emperor of Ethiopia from 1632 to 1667 and established Gondar as the imperial capital. His foundation of Gondar gave the period its defining political center.
Fasil Ghebbi: Fasil Ghebbi is a walled royal enclosure in Gondar containing castles, palaces, churches, and other buildings. Its successive palace constructions made the imperial court visible in the city’s built landscape.
