Great Western Railway

The Great Western Railway was a British railway company founded in 1833 to connect London with western England. Its network later extended to Wales and southwest England.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel: A British engineer whose work included railways, bridges, ships, and tunnels. As the railway’s chief engineer, Brunel designed its route, structures, and broad gauge.
Great Western Main Line: A railway line linking London Paddington with Bristol Temple Meads. It was the company’s principal route between the capital and the west.
Daniel Gooch: A British locomotive engineer and railway manager who led the Great Western Railway’s locomotive department and later became its chairman. Gooch developed the company’s locomotives and helped guide its expansion.

South Wales Railway: A nineteenth-century railway company that built a line from the Great Western Railway’s network into South Wales. Its absorption extended the company’s reach into Welsh industrial regions.
Cornish Riviera Express: A named express train service between London and Cornwall, introduced by the Great Western Railway in 1904. It became a flagship service on the company’s route to southwest England.
