Guangxi

Guangxi is an autonomous region in southern China, officially the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It borders Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin and has a large Zhuang population.

Zhuang people: The Zhuang are a Tai-speaking ethnic group concentrated in southern China, especially Guangxi. Their population and culture are central to Guangxi’s autonomous-region identity.
Nanning: Nanning is the capital and largest city of Guangxi in southern China. It is the region’s administrative center and a major transport hub.
Baiyue: Baiyue is a historical Chinese name for diverse peoples of ancient southern China. The label evokes populations that preceded the region’s incorporation into imperial China.
Longji Rice Terraces: The Longji Rice Terraces are steep, layered agricultural fields in Longsheng County, Guangxi. They demonstrate how communities adapted farming to Guangxi’s mountainous terrain.
Guizhou: Guizhou is a landlocked province in southwestern China, east of Yunnan and west of Hunan. It shares Guangxi’s mountainous southwest setting but lacks a coast and Vietnam border.
Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region: The official name of Guangxi, an autonomous region in southern China. This is the region’s full official name and expresses its status within China.
Beibu Gulf Economic Zone: The Beibu Gulf Economic Zone is a regional development area centered on Guangxi’s southern coast. It links Guangxi’s ports and cities to trade around the Gulf of Tonkin.
Lingnan: Lingnan is the historical and cultural region south of China’s Nanling Mountains. Guangxi’s history is closely tied to this broader southern region.
Detian Falls: Detian Falls is a transnational waterfall on the China–Vietnam border in Guangxi and Cao Bằng Province. The falls make Guangxi’s border geography visible in a renowned natural landmark.
Yunnan: Yunnan is a southwestern Chinese province bordering several countries in Southeast and South Asia. Like Guangxi, it is ethnically diverse and borders Vietnam, but has no coastline.
