Handscroll

A handscroll is a horizontally oriented painting or calligraphic work designed to be viewed in sections as it is unrolled by hand.

Scroll painting: A painting made on a flexible support that can be rolled or unrolled. Handscrolls are a horizontal format within the broader tradition of scroll painting.
Chinese painting: A painting tradition developed in China, using media such as ink on paper or silk. Handscrolls became a major format within Chinese painting.
