Hayam Wuruk

Hayam Wuruk was a Javanese king who ruled the Majapahit Empire from 1350 to 1389, when it reached its greatest power and influence.

Gajah Mada: A Majapahit chief minister and military leader who served under Hayam Wuruk. As mahapatih, he helped extend Majapahit’s influence during Hayam Wuruk’s reign.
Nagarakretagama: A 1365 Old Javanese court poem by Mpu Prapanca describing Majapahit and its ruler. It praises Hayam Wuruk and gives the fullest contemporary picture of his court.
Majapahit Empire: The political realm ruled by the Majapahit dynasty, centered in eastern Java. Its territorial influence and court prominence peaked during Hayam Wuruk’s rule.
Sunda Kingdom: A kingdom in western Java that existed alongside Majapahit and maintained its own ruling dynasty. The Bubat conflict shows the political independence that Majapahit’s expansion did not erase.

Tribhuwana Wijayatunggadewi: A Majapahit queen who ruled from 1328 to 1350 and was Hayam Wuruk’s mother. Her reign preceded his and established the kingdom he inherited.
Old Javanese literature: Literature composed in Old Javanese, including court poetry, religious works, and chronicles. Hayam Wuruk’s court is chiefly known through works in this literary tradition.
