Henri Gouraud

Henri Gouraud (1867–1946) was a French army officer and colonial administrator who served in campaigns in West Africa and later commanded French forces in the Middle East during World War I.

French West Africa: A French colonial federation in West Africa that existed from 1895 to 1958. Gouraud’s early military service took place in this French colonial region.
Joseph Gallieni: A French army officer and colonial administrator known for his service in Africa and Madagascar. Gallieni and Gouraud were prominent officers in France’s colonial military system.
