Hua Guofeng

Hua Guofeng was a Chinese Communist Party leader who succeeded Mao Zedong, serving as premier from 1976 to 1980 and party chairman from 1976 to 1981.

Arrest of the Gang of Four: The October 1976 detention of four leading radicals, including Mao Zedong’s widow Jiang Qing, that ended their political dominance. Hua authorized the arrests soon after Mao’s death, consolidating his position and ending the radical faction’s influence.
