CationBroader topic: It is a common molecular cation in aqueous acid–base chemistry.
AmmoniumCompared with: It is the oxygen-centered counterpart to nitrogen-centered ammonium.
NeutralizationRelated: Writing hydronium makes the aqueous proton-transfer reaction explicit.
Weak acidRelated: In water, proton donation by an acid produces hydronium.
Hydrogen halideRelated: Water accepts the proton released as a hydrogen halide ionizes.
